About the practice

Smart Grid Systems is a small specialist practice. We do one thing — model distribution networks and find what they cost — and we do it at national scale.

We work directly for organisations that run large distribution networks, and as the analytical partner inside larger consortia delivering donor-funded public-health programmes. In both cases the role is the same: build the model, test it against the constraints that actually bind, and produce a recommendation that survives scrutiny from people whose job is to challenge it.

The practice is deliberately small. Engagements are led by the person doing the modelling, which keeps the distance between the analysis and the client short. Where a study needs specialist input beyond that, we bring in collaborators for the engagement rather than carrying a bench.

What we are careful about

Our client work is confidential, which is why the case studies on this site describe clients by sector and region rather than by name. The figures in them are unaltered — they are the numbers we delivered, not rounded or reframed for effect. We would rather show a 5% saving that is real than a headline that does not survive an audit.
